Northington wins second consecutive Austin City Amateur
Daniel Northington
AUSTIN, Tex. (August 3, 2014) — Daniel Northington shot a final-round 71 at Roy Kizer Golf Course to claim his second consecutive title at the Austin City Amateur Championship.
Northington's first-round 70 had him trailing by three strokes on Thursday, and even a 67 on Friday didn't put him in the lead as first-round co-leader, and eventual second-place finisher Steve Paterson had rounds of 67 and 68 posted going into the weekend.
But Paterson stumbled, shooting 72-73 on Saturday and Sunday while Northington moved in to win back-to-back titles with weekend rounds of 70 and 71.
Northington struggled early on Sunday, shooting a two-over par 37 on the front nine, including a double bogey on the ninth hole. But Northington found a rhythm on the back side, making no bogeys and two birdies to shoot 34 and claim victory.
