Kentucky Match Play: Medalist Denver Haddix rolls into quarters
LOUISVILLE (July 29, 2014) -- Brandon Beckham of Smiths Grove and Evan Shelley of Albany continued their quest to be the Cinderella stories of the Kentucky Match Play Championship.
Beckham took out Cooper Musselman by a victory of 3&2 in the round of 16 matches at Oxmoor Country Club on July 29. Shelley defeated Chandler Morgan 3&1.
Both young gentlemen will again have their hands full tomorrow as Beckham takes on Fred Allen Meyer (who handled Travis Rose 5&3) and Shelley takes on Kyle Leach who was playing well coming into the event and decidedly won his afternoon match against Christopher Stout 6&5.
The final two matches in the quarterfinals, beginning on early on Wednesday morning, should also prove to be a great test as Medalist Denver Haddix, Jr. escaped last year’s Semi Finalist J.B. Williams 1-up and will now take on Spalding University’s Andrew Pleasant. Pleasant outlasted Joseph Aguirre in 20 holes.
Oxmoor Country Club member Robbie Crockett II will need all the course knowledge he can muster against Hunter York who had another decisive victory in the afternoon matches, defeating Cameron Beal 4&2.
Things are shaping up for an exciting Wednesday in the Consolation Match, as well. #1 seed Chris Doub will face Scott Pottinger after each had nice 2&1 and 4&3 victories, respectively. Another Oxmoor Country Club member, Aaron Yarmuth will take on Nick McCarthy. Jacob Jackson will take on Drew Kiehl and James Inman will go against Alex Hyland to round out the field.
Tee times begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and we could not be more excited to see what the Quarter and Semifinal rounds will bring!
