Kentucky Match Play: Denver Haddix wins medalist honors, two seed for match play
LOUISVILLE (July 28, 2014) -- Clark’s Pump N Shop Marathon Kentucky Amateur runner-up, Denver Haddix of Lexington, had little trouble with the Championship Flight qualifying portion of the Kentucky Match Play Championship at Oxmoor Country Club on July 28.
Haddix fired a three-under-par round of 69 to claim in the #2 seed for the Championship. Joe Deraney, also of Lexington, is the Defending Champion and automatic #1 seed when the 32-player matches of 16 begin tomorrow morning.
In almost fall like conditions, Oxmoor provided a good opening test to the field. Consistently solid amateurs; Matt Epperson of Lexington and Robbie Crockett of Louisville, both managed two-under-par rounds of 70. They were followed closely behind by Hayden Barrows of Versailles, Cameron Beal of Bowling Green, Andrew Gladden of Bowling Green, Matthew Renner of Hilliard and 2013 KGA Player of the Year, Fred Allen Meyer of Nicholasville.
There was a playoff to determine the last two spots for the Championship between those who shot rounds of five-over-par 77.
The playoff began on #9 with J. Ryan Harris of Elizabethtown and Brandon Beckham of Smiths Grove securing the final slots in the Championship and Chris Doub of Louisville taking the top spot in the Consolation Bracket.
Matches will begin at 7:30 a.m. on July 29 off of #1 tee and an equally excellent day, golf course and shot making abilities await us. We look forward to seeing who will advance to take the crown of Match Play Champion and secure a five year exemption to the Amateur Championship.
