Kansas Match Play: Defending champ Hanna in lead

MISSION HILLS, Kan. (July 22, 2014) -- 2013 Kansas Amateur champion Chase Hanna finds himself in the lead again at the 104th Kansas Amateur Championship at Mission Hills Country Club.
The KU sophomore fired an opening round 6-under par 64 to take the first round lead in stroke play qualifying. SMU golfer Alex Higgs is two shots back after an opening round 4-under par 66.
Former KSU golfer Alex Carney is in third after a 2-under par 68 in the first round.
Four additional players posted rounds of 1-under par 69. Stroke play qualifying will continue on Wednesday with the second round of stroke play qualifying to determine the low 64 players that will advance to the 64-player match play bracket on Thursday.
The 2014 championship will be held July 21-27 at Mission Hills Country Club. This will be the fourth time Mission Hills CC has hosted the Kansas Amateur. Previous years were 1979, 1989 and 2001.

ABOUT THE Kansas Amateur
36 holes of individual stroke play qualifying to
determine low 64 players advancing to single
elimination match play bracket. Any player that is
not
exempt from regional qualifying must go through
one
of the five regional qualifying sites or the second
chance qualifier to advance to the championship.
Open
to any male amateur golfer with an active
USGA/GHIN
Handicap Index through a KGA member club.
