McDonald, Belle ahead at British Columbia Amateur
by the British Columbia Golf Association

NORTH VANCOUVER, Canada (July 16, 2014)-- At the midway point of the 112th British Columbia Amateur Championship presented by Blue Shore Financial, two players lead the field at two-under-par with a two-day total of 140, but the top of the leaderboard is tight at Seymour Golf and Country Club.

Michael Belle maintains his spot in first shooting even par on Wednesday. A number of birdies helped to counterbalance some trouble on the back nine that included a double-bogey on number 10 and two back-to-back bogeys towards the end of his round.

“Everything has been going good so far, I’m going to keep playing conservatively and then attacking pins when I have wedges in, and then kind of taking my medicine when I have to,” stated Belle.

“For a short course, it’s really tough. The scores are not that low. They did a really good job protecting it by growing out the rough and making the greens firm.”

Stuart McDonald bettered his first round score by two strokes allowing him to take over a share of the lead, shooting the day’s low score, a 2-under-par 69. The Purdue junior eagled number nine, a 497-yard par-5 and birdied twice to help push him to the top of the leaderboard.

Adam Svensson finished even for the day and is currently tied for third with Spencer Weiss, just a single stroke back of the leaders at 141. Cameron Davison has shown rounds out the top five, even at 142.

The field was cut after two days of competition at 155, but also includes players who missed the cut but finished in the top five in the best-ball competition. Jeff Wright and Colin Gilliam have rallied as a team to keep Wright in play despite finishing 159 after day two.
