Magnolia Amateur: 3 share lead atop busy leaderboard
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (July 11, 2014) -- Cincinnati's Jared O'Kelley, Patrick Sanchez of Marquette and Will Thrash share the lead after the first round of play at the 2014 Magnolia Amateur.
The trio carded identical 4-under 67s at Hattiesburg Country Club and are a shot up on the field entering Saturday's second of three rounds at the exlusive event.
Jake Pritchard of Louisiana is alone in third at 3-under while Bryce Alley, Hayden Buckley, Hayes Weathersby, J.T. Taylor, Kevin Brady and Noah West all sit two shots back and tied for fifth.
All told, ther are 13 players within three shots of the shared lead and 23 more within five shots, making for an interesting final two rounds.
ABOUT THE The Magnolia Amateur
The Magnolia Amateur is a limited field event of
156 players consisting of a collegiate division and
a mid-amateur division. The field will be cut to
the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes of
competition has been completed. The overall
champion may come from either division, with the
competition taking place over 3 days and 54
holes.
Along with the individual tournament, there is a
college team competition that will be based on
the combined scores of two players on the same
team over the 3 rounds.
It is an exclusive amateur tournament, where
players are reviewed and accepted by the
Tournament Committee.
