Utah State Amateur: Holt holds qualifying lead
OGDEN, Utah (July 7, 2014) -- Jacob Holt shot a first-round 8-under 65 at Valley View Golf Course and leads by three at the 116th Utah State Amateur Championship.
Entering Tuesday's second of two stroke-play qualifying rounds, Holt is atop the leaderboard.
Devon Purser shot 5-under 67 and is within striking distance of the medalist position.
Jason Hargett, Tanner Alder, Tommy Higham and Kalin Peterson are all just four shots back after opening-round 68s.

ABOUT THE Utah State Amateur
Those who qualify, along with the exempt players,
will advance to a
36-hole qualifying. The low 64 qualifiers will advance
into match play.
There will be one round of match play on
Wednesday, two rounds of
match play on Thursday and Friday, and a 36-hole
championship
match on Saturday.
