BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 19, 2014) -- Alex Green fired a first-round 66 to take the early lead at the 2014 Greystone Invitational at Greyston Golf & Country Club.
Playing the Founder's Course, Green carded seven birdies on the front nine and eagled the par-5 15th to sign for the day's best round.
Green recently took sixth at the Southern Junior and was also sixth at the Alabama State Amateur last week.
Jordan Smith is alone in second place after a 5-under 67 while Gunn Yang and Jake Tycker sit tied for third after shooting 4-under 68 in Round 1.

The Greystone Invitational is a 72-hole event with a cut to the low 36 and ties following Round 2. Established in 2001, the event annually draws one of the region's top amateur fields and calls Michael Thompson of the PGA Tour, Georgia Tech's Bo Andrews and Auburn's Michael Johnson among its list of past champions.
