Texas State Amateur: 4 players share lead
DALLAS, Tx. (June 12, 2014) -- Greg Yates, Jake Istnick, Andrew Ertel and Will Zalatoris all shot 3-under 68 and share the lead after Round 1 of the 2014 Texas State Amateur at historic Brook Hollow Golf Club.
Built in 1920 by legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast, Brook Hollow is playing host to its record ninth Texas Amateur. The 144-player field will be cut after Friday’s second round to the low 54 scores and ties.
Stratton Nolen, a freshman at Oklahoma State and the recent Texas Public Links champion, is a shot behind entering Friday's second round.
"After my start, I was concerned the round was going to get away from me,” said Istnick to the TXGA. "But I also knew that if I started making some good swings, I’d put some wedges in my hand. I knew I didn’t play my way out of the tournament.”
