Southern Junior: Rhode Island's Dickson leads
JACKSON, Miss. (June 11, 2014) -- A golfer from Rhode Island is leading the Southern Junior Amateur. And he's right here he wanted to be.
Will Dickson, whose sister Sara is a touring pro, fired a 4-under 68 to take the lead after a weather-delayed first round at the Country Club of Jackson.
Just 13-years old, Dickson is atop a field filled with experienced juniors but reeled off six birdies en route to the early lead.
Wilson Furr and Charlie Miller, both 15 and Brooks Rabren, 17, opened at 69 and will be hoping to climb to the top of the leaderboard in Round 2 of three Thursday.
The winner earns an automatic berth in the 108th Southern Amateur at the Honors Course near Chattanooga next month.
