Alabama State Amateur: Hodges goes low in Round 1
POINT CLEAR, Ala. (June 5, 2014) -- Lee Hodges fired a first-round 66 and leads at the 2014 Alabama State Championship at Lakewood Golf Club.
Hodges poured on the scoring, using four front-nine birdies and a flawless back nine that included birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to create distance from Dalton Skinner (5-under 67) who sits alone in second place.
Will Cannon of Hoover is alone in third place with a 4-under 68 while Clint Provost fired 3-under 69 to take fourth place after Round 1. Both Andy McRae and David Barnett shot 2-under 70 to tie for fifth place.
"I've been hitting the ball well, but I started making putts (in his first round)," Hodges told the Alabama Golf Association. "It was really fun to play this well. I only missed one fairway and that led to a bogey on the easiest hole on the course, but I'm just thrilled to be playing and playing well.
"I try not to think too much (about the prestige of the State Amateur). I'm just pleased to have a good round under my belt."
