LECANTO, Fla. (June 3, 2014) -- Mark Weston shot a first-round 69 and holds a one-shot lead at the 2014 U.S. Senior Challenge at Black Diamond's Ranch.

Playing the club's Quarry Course, Weston took a one-shot advantage over Jerry McMullen of Indiana.

Bev Hargraves is third with a 72 while Rick Herpick shot 73 to tie Happy Rakestraw in fourth place.

In the Super Senior Division, Ron Green leads Berger Warner after a first-round 71.

James Love leads the Legends Flight. He shot a 74 and finished five shots better than Bill Erwin.

ABOUT THE U.S. Senior Challenge

The U.S. Senior Challenge is the nation's only senior amateur event conducted in a state-team format.

Originally encompassing 15 states in 1985, the U.S. Senior Challenge now consists of teams and players from 37 states. Each member state is led by a State Captain selected and approved by the Board of Directors.

The championship is played each year at Gross Stroke play and includes participants 55 years of age and over with a maximum handicap of 4.

Teams consist of 4 men including the State Captain who selects the players. The field is limited to the first 30 teams entered.
