Colorado Mid-Am Match Play: Erdman upsets way to semifinals

LONGMONT, Colo. (May 31, 2014) -- Paul Erdman of Colorado National Golf Club won two matches Saturday and upset top-seeded Keith Humerickhouse of Glenwood Springs Golf Club in the quarterfinals of the CGA Mid-Amateur Match Play Invitational at The Fox Hill Club in Longmont.

Erdman, seeded ninth, ousted Humerickhouse -- winner of the last four CGA Mid-Amateur stroke play championships -- in 19 holes.

All four quarterfinal matches were decided by the narrowest of margins as second-seeded Steve Irwin (pictured) of Lakewood Country Club, No. 3 Michael Harrington of Garden of the Gods Club and No. 5 Christopher Thayer of Bear Creek Golf Club also advanced to Sunday morning's semifinals.

Irwin defeated Lamar Carlile of City Parks Associates Club 1 up, while Harrington beat Richard Bradsby of Lakewood Country Club 1 up, and Thayer ousted Barry Erwin of Murphy Creek Golf Course in 20 holes.

Erdman has won three matches to make the semifinals, while the other three semifinalists had first-round byes. Irwin will face Harrington and Erdman will square off with Thayer in Sunday's semis.

The finals of the Mid-Am Match Play, which is limited to players 25 and older, will take place Sunday afternoon.
