Two Man Links Underway at Bandon Dunes
BANDON, Oregon (May 5, 2014) -- The 13th Annual AmateurGolf.com Two Man Links Championship got underway at Pacific Dunes today, and perfect scoring conditions led to great days for many teams, and a particularly memorable day for one player.
Mike Meyer of Roseville fired an 8 iron into the cup on the 11th hole, the often photographed par-3 that sits right on the ocean cliffs. It was Meyer's third career ace, and helped he and partner Ken Daigle to a first round 66 that puts them in a four way tie for first place in the Net Division. Right up there with them are the teams of Peter Butler and Hugh Tildesley from Vancouver, David and Lee Fishman of San Francisco, and Charles Purse (Greenwich, CT) and Randall Schwartz (Burlingame, CA).
In the Senior Division, long time competitor Brian McGuire paired with first-timer Paul Batchelor (both of Vancouver) for a 3-under 68 that gives them a one stroke edge over Sherman Haggerty (El Dorado Hills, CA) and Ben Whipple of South Carolina. Haggerty and Whipple are defending their senior title.
Matt Fisher of Encino, CA and Craig Courtney of Woodland Hills, CA fired a strong 2-under 69 to lead the Championship division.
