Illinois State Scramble: Sawtell, Natale prevail
WOODRIDGE, IL (April 27, 2014) -- The team of Steve Sawtell and Mike Natale won the 31st Annual Illinois State Scramble at Village Greens of Woodridge on April 26th and 27th . The duo led from beginning to end, shooting rounds of 60-61 to better the field of 66 teams over the 6638 yard layout to claim the $1,500.00 top prize.
Despite cool, gusty conditions, Sawtell and Natale recorded 10 birdies and an eagle to take the lead on day #1. Their eagle on #2 was the only skin recorded for the day. Past champions John Finnin and John Wright were lurking 3 strokes back, while Paul Dagys and Greg Takata were only a shot back entering day #2.
On day #2, Graham O’Connor-Brooks and partner Andrew Price fired a front nine 30 to pull within a stroke of the lead. Still up by 1 entering the final hole, Sawtell and Natale sealed the tournament by recording the only eagle 3 of the day on the par 5 18th.
Three skins were recorded on Sunday, including eagles on #6, #16.
The Illinois State Scramble is a 36-hole 2-person scramble which attracts top amateur players throughout the Midwest. Players from 5 states competed in this year’s event, and over $25,000 in prizes and gifts were awarded.

ABOUT THE Illinois State Scramble
This 36 hole two-person scramble is played at
scratch.
The winners are determined by low gross score. All
golfers are eligible to register for this tournament.
Payouts will be in the form of merchandise credit and
will be awarded to approximately one-third of the
field.
In addition, there will be an optional skins game at
$40
per team per day. Senior division for teams with both
members age 50 or over.
