Texas South Senior: Cooper, Youngs lead early
Pat Youngs
(Spring, TX) - Pat Youngs and Patrick Cooper lead their respective divisions after the first round of the South Senior Amateur Championship. This year’s regional championship, presented by CLUB CHAMPION, is being held at Raveneaux Country Club in North Houston.
After the first round Youngs, of San Antonio, leads the Senior division shooting a 4-under par 67. Youngs had six birdies in the round, with four of those birdies coming on Raveneaux’s front nine, which was Youngs back nine as he started the round off of #10 tee. Kent Samuel, of The Woodlands, sits two strokes behind Youngs on the leaderboard with a first round score of 2-under par 69.
Conroe’s Cooper holds the lead of the Super Senior division with a first round total of 1-over par 72. Cooper’s scorecard included four birdies, two on his front nine and two on his back nine. Cooper holds a slight lead over Georgetown’s Don Grider, who had a first round total of 3-over par 74. Grider also finished with four birdies in his opening round.
The final round of the South Senior Amateur Championship will begin at 8:00 AM off of holes #1 and #10. With 18 holes left to play, it is setting up to be an exciting finish as we look to crown a champion in both the Senior and Super Senior divisions.
