Miss. Mid-Am: Lampley goes low (64) to take lead
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (March 22, 2014) -- Josh Lampley of Gulfport fired a low tournament round, 64, placing him in the top of the field moving into the final round of the Mid Amateur Championship.
Lampley sits at 8 under for the tournament while Michael Hammett, Ben Snow and Joel Myrick are two strokes back and all tied for second. Lampley will have to hold his own as the three competitors nipping at his heels are all local Hattiesburg golfers.
Of the senior golfers in the field, David Griffin, remains in the lead with a consecutive 71 in the second round. Ricky Sims follows close behind as a senior golfer, firing a 69 and placing him tied for twelfth in Mid Am field. Many low rounds throughout the second day of the championship bring the field into close contention to start the final round.
A second beautiful day for the Mississippi amateur field. With forecasted rain moving into the Hattiesburg area overnight, the champion may be determined amid wet conditions. Leaders are in high spirits and eager to crown a champion on Sunday.
