General Hackler: Middle Tenn. rallies for title
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (March 11, 2014) -- Brett Patterson, Payne Denman and Lucas Armstrong all birdied their final hole to help Middle Tennessee State rally for a two-shot victory Tuesday at the General Hackler Championship.
Patterson and Denman each birdied the par-5 18th while Lucas Armstrong closed with a birdie at the par-4 opening hole. All three tied for 11th to lead the Blue Raiders, who finished at 20-over 884.
Middle Tennessee State entered the final round at TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C., a shot back of second-round leader and 22nd-ranked Kent State. But the Golden Flashes shot 294 Tuesday to finish in second at 22 over. Iowa State was third at 26 over.
Kent State did boast one of two co-medalists in Corey Conners, who tied for first with Coastal Carolina's Andrew Dorn at even-par 216.
