South Carolina Partners: Day, Plyler prevail
COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 2, 2014) -- Great golfing conditions greeted the field on Sunday for the final round of the SCGA Partners Championship at Spring Valley Country Club and The Members Club at Woodcreek. Starting the day two shots behind the leaders, Daniel Day and Mickey Plyler posted a score of six under par 66 in the better ball format for a total of 17-under to capture the Championship Division crown by one stroke. Finishing in second was the team of Geno Berchiatti and Robert Lutomski with rounds of 62-66. Day one leaders, Andrew Hewitt and Tyler Macolly, finished four shots back at 131.

Matt Laydon and Bill Smunk earned the Championship Division Second Flight honors with a low round of the day, nine under par 63. The team of Jeff Burkett and Brian Lee posted the low score in the Third Flight for a two day total of 136.

In the Tournament Division at The Members Club at Woodcreek, Wil Hutchens and Chuck Moore followed up their first round score of 61 with a better ball round of two-under par 70. The former Wofford golfers teamed to win by two shots over Andy Gianoukos and Brian Lott. In the Second Flight, Jeff George and Justin Turbeville tied Jack Brown and Jonathan Coleman at three-under par 141 to share top honors. Austin Finley and Jackson Mizzell won the Third Flight by four shots with a total score of one-under 143.

The 2014 SCGA Partners Championship was played over two golf courses, the par 72 – 6,665 yard Spring Valley CC course in Columbia, S.C and the par 72- 6,686 yard Members Club at Woodcreek course in Elgin. The field consisted of 102 two-man teams split into two different Divisions based on handicap, the Championship Division and the Tournament Division. Each division played a Captains Choice format the first day and a Best Ball format the second while alternating courses each day. The Partners Championship is one of 20 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Partners

The Partners Championship has become one of the most popular events conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association. So popular in fact, that in 2009 the SCGA had to expand to two golf courses, Spring Valley Country Club & The Members Club - Woodcreek Course.

The field will play in two separate divisions flip- flopping golf courses on Saturday & Sunday. The Championship Division will conclude play at Woodcreek on Sunday and both divisions will be broken into flights for the final round.

The Partners Championship continues to be one of the main fund raisers for the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.
