MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2014) — The World Golf Championship-Accenture Match
Play Championship was filled with incredible shots and heightened drama as the final
match went to 23 holes this past weekend. The victory was hard won in a playoff that
ultimately came down to a player with Project X Rifle shafts versus a player with
Project X shafts.
After fighting it out in a 5-hole sudden death playoff, the winner birdied the 23rd hole
with Rifle shafts for the victory in the 64-man field. He got up and down an incredible
89 percent of the time at the event. The win moves him to 11th in the FedEx Cup
points and number four in the Official World Golf Rankings. Meanwhile, the runner-up
played Project X to make some shots that are sure to go down in history, and certainly
earned him a spot on the international golf stage.
“To say this was an exciting Match Play is the understatement of the season,” said
Scott Hennessy, president and CEO of True Temper Sports. “The top three players at
the WGC event trusted our shafts. So, even as we watched some of the exciting
back-and-forth in the playoff, we were confident True Temper would be in the winner’s
circle no matter who ultimately claimed the victory.”
Truth in Numbers:
• The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship winner’s bag: Rifle 6.5 (2-PW)
51 players in the field had shafts by True Temper in their bag.
• The top three players at the event had Rifle 6.5, Project X 6.5 and Dynamic Gold
X100
in the bag
• The win marks the 14th win in 15 events during the 2013-2014 PGA TOUR
season
