S.Carolina Tournament of Champions: Roberts takes it
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (Jan. 26, 2014) -- After playing through cold temperatures and high winds in the first round, Mother Nature decided to cooperate and gave the participants of the 18th Tournament of Champions at The Tradition Club a much better January day to play golf.
It took a two-hole playoff, but Kevin Roberts of Chesnee outlasted Walter Todd to capture the Men’s Club Championship division with a score of 146.
Kingstree’s Bill Smunk won the Men’s Senior Club Division after shooting a two-day total of 144.
Greer’s Tucker MacDonald won the One Day Gross by two shots over Alex Finke. In the One Day Senior Division, Bernie Shealy of Columbia placed first with a final score of 143, the only score under par in the field.
Jaelyn Tindal from Rock Hill won the Women’s division by one shot after shooting 152 for the two days. Les Bradstreet used his 19 handicap to win the One Day Net division by five shots over his nearest competitor.
The 18th Annual Tournament of Champions was played over the Tradition Golf Club layout in Pawleys Island, S.C. The field consisted 105 men & women Club and One Day tournament Champions throughout South Carolina. The Tournament of Champions is one of 20 Major Championships that the South Carolina Golf Association conducts through the year.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Tournament of Champions
With the first event held in January of 1997, The
Tournament of Champions was created to honor the
Champions of the SCGA Member Club events and
the
SCGA One Day Tournaments throughout the year
prior.
Participants compete against one another in flights
based on how they qualified. Flights are broken up
as Men's Club Champions, Men's Senior Club
Champions, SCGA One Day Gross winners, SCGA
One Day Net winner, SCGA One Day Senior winners
and a Women's Division that includes both Women's
Club Champions and WSCGA One Day winners.
Each
flight plays from a predetermined set of tees and
competes only against other players in their
respective flight.
From the first event of 42 players, the Tournament
of
Champions now reaches capacity and has become of
one of the highlights for many players throughout
the year.
