Carolinas Young Am: Bae, Capps take titles
PINEHURST, N.C. (Dec. 31, 2013) -- Sarah Bae of Cary went wire to wire in winning the women’s division of the 6th Carolinas Young Amateur. Bae, a freshman at High Point University, followed her first round 68 with a two over par 74 on the Magnolia course at Pinewild CC in Pinehurst, NC and finished with a two day total of two under par 142. Courtney McKim of Raleigh, NC finished in second place four shots back at two over par 146. Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill, NC finished in third place at 148 while Kelsey Badmaev of Columbia, SC came in fourth place at 153. In the men’s division, Miller Capps of Denver, NC shot a second round 70 and finished with a 36-hole total of 138 and gave him a one shot victory. Capps, a sophomore at Clemson University, played steady golf all day carding three birdies and a lone bogey. Philip Oweida of Charlotte, NC shot the low single round of the tournament with a round of six under 66 and finished in second place one shot back at 139. Defending champion, Eric Brady of Cary, NC, came in tied for third place at three under par 141 with first round leader Preston Cole of Greer, SC.

golfer between the ages of 18 and 25
who
have finished high school who is a legal
resident of
North or South Carolina, is a member in
good
standing of a club which is a member of
the
Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a
current
USGA handicap index at a CGA member
club.
The championship format is 36 holes of
stroke
play.
