Defending national champions Alabama (men) and USC (women) have two things in common: Both teams are undefeated and have the longest winning streaks in the country.

Alabama is also No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, while USC is No. 2 in the women's rankings.

USC didn't rise to the top because of UCLA’s dominant showing -- a 20-shot win -- at the Mason Rudolph, one of the top tournaments of the fall season. That event alone is outweighs the one- and two-shot victories USC has when it played UCLA in the two tournaments this fall.

Here's a closer look at each squad:

Alabama

Alabama won its program-record 10th straight tournament dating back to last season when the team won at the Gifford Collegiate on Nov. 5 in Newport Beach, Calif.

The Tide won its four fall tournament by a 12.10 stroke average, and over the last 10 tournaments, the team won by an average of 10.10 shots.

“Well, I guess we will find out in May,” said Alabama head coach Jay Seawell at the Isleworth Collegiate on if his team is better than the previous year. “We are playing pretty good golf right now and I’m proud of them. … We have a chance to be a very good team so we’ll see how we end up.”

Senior Trey Mullinax is also No. 1 in the individual rankings. Mullinax has four top-10 finishes, including a victory at Isleworth.

USC

USC has won 11 of its last 12 events dating back to last year. And some of USC’s tournament wins have been by a lot smaller margins.

In the team’s last tournament, the Pac-12 Preview, the Trojans had to come from behind to win its seventh straight tournament. Washington (No. 4) and UCLA (No. 1) were among the victims of yet another Trojan victory.

Last season, the California men started the season with five consecutive wins before losing for the first time in its first spring tournament at the Arizona Intercollegiate. The Golden Bears went on to win an astounding 11 of 13 tournaments, a new modern-day record.

After the season the Bears had last year, a lot of coaches and players said that type of season could never be done again.

Hold your horses sports fans, this season could be one for the record books – on the men’s and women’s side.
