Hasse, Wegmann win Palm Beach Tour Championship sponsored by Tiger Woods
PALM CITY, Fla. – Bryan Haase of Jupiter, Peter Wegmann of Fort Lauderdale and Pete Williams of Juno Beach were the winners Sunday in the Tour Championship presented by Tiger Woods, the final event of the season for the Palm Beach County Golf Association.
Haase was the only player to break par both days at The Fox Club with 70-69—139 to win the Open Division by three shots. He also finished atop the Bankrate Cup point standings, a season-long competition based on tournament finishes. Haase also won the Palm Beach International, an early-season Stableford event.
In Senior Division play for PBCGA members 50 years and older, Wegmann won the Tour Championship with consecutive par-72s to edge Williams, 144 to 145. Williams won the Braman Cup, the senior point standings. “Williams played better than I did today,” Wegmann said. “He just talked himself into missing a few putts.”
Haase made five birdies each day and “I didn’t make a double bogey and I had only one three-putt,” at the par-4 10th hole Saturday, he said. Haase even saved par after hitting his second shot into the water at the par-5 12th hole the first round. “I’ve played about six (PBCGA) tournaments this year and won two,” he said. “That’s not too bad.”
There were 22 players in the open division and 12 seniors
The only event remaining this year for the top local golfers will be the 20th annual Sam Smidt Cup Dec. 6 at Jonathan’s Landing GC @ Old Trail west of Jupiter. It matches top amateurs from the PBCGA and club professionals from the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA Section.
