SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Nov. 11, 2013) --
The 17th annual
Straight Down Fall Classic tees
off Friday from San Luis Obispo Golf & Country
Club with another impressive field
mixed with big names --- and personalities ---
in amateur and professional golf.
Of course, any time you mix the likes of Fred
Couples, Brandel Chamblee, Tom Lehman and
Gary McCord, personality is bound to
prevail.
The above mix of golf legends and media
personalities headlines the 2013 professional
field, in which players will again be paired
with an amateur golfer in the event's unique
and inviting format.
The event is a 36-hole pro-am, four-ball
stroke-play and offers spectators a unique
experience free-of-charge with plenty of
access to players and inexpensive food and
drink in the tradition of The Masters and an
overall inviting, laid-back vibe.
Defending champions Scott Heyn will return
with
the hopes of a repeat but will be joined by
Chris
Heintz, who replaces 2012 partner Corby
Segal.
Last year, the duo bested Fred
Couples and Brad Shaw in a playoff to prevail
in thrilling fashion.
Straight Down, based in San Luis Obispo,
operates under the precipice of paying tribute
to tradition and staying true to the spirit
of the game and is a leading provider of golf
and lifestyle apparel and accessories. The
company stresses the use of high-quality
materials and superior products, with an
unmatched attention to customer service.
Much of that focus is seen in the running of
the Straight Down Fall Classic.
The schedule changes made by the PGA Tour
mean that the annual Fall Classic doesn't fall
in
the 'offseason' anymore. But that
doesn't dim the excitement of the event or
its meaning.
The Woody Invitational, held on Friday in
memory of Donnie Woodward, brings together
local amateur golfers and pros in a four-
ball stroke play tournament with 100 percent
of the proceeds benefiting the ALS Foundation
in honor of Woodward. In the last two
years, the event has been able to raise
enough money to keep the Monterey ALS
Clinic
open.
The main event is held on Saturday and
Sunday with the field comprised of 60 pro-am
teams. Each amateur selected to
participate must meet a rigid eligibility
requirement and pay a minimal fee to play.
Tee
times begin at 8 a.m. on both days.
Amateurs in the field include former USGA
Mid-
Amateur champion Kevin Marsh,
amateurgolf.com Player Staff member Brent
Brockermeyer and highly-ranked Texan Joe
Bendetti, among others.

ABOUT THE Straight Down Fall Classic
Annual invitational event sponsored by apparel
manufacturer Straight Down and supported
by sponsor companies from the California
Central Coast.
Format is one pro, paired with one amateur
-- pros are PGA Club pros and members of
various professional tours with enough "big
names" to bring out thousands of spectators.
And the spectators are rewarded with up-
close access normally not found at a PGA
Tour event. The
ALS Foundation was named as the
designated beneficiary in 2009.
