First round leaders Dave Boyce, Jr. of Charlotte and Daniel Claytor of Rocky Mount improved upon their opening round 64 with a 5-under par performance. They will be paired with Robert Preston of Matthews and Robert Dean of Indian Trail, who tied for the lowest round today at 6-under par that moved them to 10-under par for the championship. Dean won the championship in 2007 with a different partner, Anthony Ray of Charlotte.

The team of Noah Edmondson and William Gordon, both high school juniors from Davidson, are alone in third place at 9-under par.
