Kentucky Mid-Am: Jasper catches fire in finale
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2013) -- David Jasper made a statement in the first five holes of his second round of the 2013 Kentucky State Mid-Amateur Championship, which proved to be the key to victory. Jasper, of Prospect, birdied his first three holes, made a crucial up-and-down on four and birdied the fifth en route to final round 69 and a one shot victory over Louisville’s Kyle Leach.
Leach put forth a valiant back-nine effort with two birdies and an eagle on hole # 15 to finish with a round of 2-under-par 70. 2013 Kentucky Match Play Champion, Joseph Deraney, of Lexington, finished with a two-day one-under-par total of 143, which was good enough for third. Gavin Murdoch, of Lexington, took home Low Net honors with a net 147 total.
In the Mid-Senior Division, Ken Francke, of Nicholasville, held onto his first round lead for a low gross victory with a two-round total of 153. He finished two shots ahead of Thomas Kelley of Louisville. On the net side, Sacha Diaj, of Lexington took top honors with a net total of 153.
In the Senior Division, Larry Brown, of Prestonsburg, continued his terrific play on Champion Trace Golf Club and finished with a two-round total of five-under-par 139. He finished seven shots ahead of Steve Humphrey, of Lexington. Joe Bunch used a final round, gross 70 to finish with a net 143 and low net honors in that division.

ABOUT THE Kentucky Mid-Amateur
36-hole stroke play championship with the following
divisions: Open (ages 25+), Mid-Senior (40-49),
Senior (50-59), and Masters (60+). Open division is
gross scoring only, while the other divisions are
gross and net.
Entrants in all KGA tournaments shall be required to
have an active Handicap Index at a Kentucky Golf
Association Member Club at the time of entry and
meet the championship’s residency requirements.
