Colorado Mid-Am: Richmeier grabs lead
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (Sept. 20, 2013) -- Brian Richmeier of Meadow Hills Golf Course shot a 5-under-par 31 on the back nine en route to a 5-under 67 overall and grabbed a three-stroke lead after Friday's first round of the 27th CGA Mid-Amateur Championship at the Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills in Westminster.

Richmeier, who qualified for last year's U.S. Mid-Amateur, made six birdies on the day as five players broke par in the opening round.

Thomas Roos of Spring Valley Golf Club and Adam Thoutt of Legacy Ridge Golf Course share second place at 70. Two-time champion Steve Irwin of Lakewood Country Club and Sean Thomas of Indian Tree Golf Course opened with 71s. Thomas made both an eagle and a double bogey on back-nine par-5s.

Keith Humerickhouse of Glenwood Springs Golf Club, who's attempting to win his fourth consecutive Mid-Amateur, started with a 1-over 73, which leaves him in ninth place.

The Mid-Am, which is limited to players 25 and older, continues through Sunday. The field will be cut to the low 40 players and ties after two rounds.
