GARDEN CITY, Kan. (Aug. 25, 2013) -- Wichita's Charlie Stevens fought through the tough conditions this weekend to claim the 2013 High Plains Amateur. As winds averaged over 20 mph all weekend, Stevens bested the field with his consistent play shooting two rounds of one over par 72 (144 total). Fellow Wichitan's Jack Courington and Kansas Amateur Runner-up, Sam Stevens, finished in a tie for second at 146. Over at Buffalo Dunes, Andrew Beckler of Topeka, Hank Simpson of Mission Hills and Matt Porter of Aurora, CO all showed they had what it takes to compete out west shooting a 2-under par 70. In the Senior Division, Jim Cornell of Garden City, battled back with a second day score of 84 to take gross honors while Roger McDowell of Shawnee Mission and Ed Chamberlin of Bucklin tied for low net.
