Courington leads High Plains Amateur
GARDEN CITY, KS (Aug. 24, 2013) — Wichita's Jack Courington leads the Open Division following round one of the 2013 High Plains Amateur at The Golf Club at Southwind in Garden City.
Courington, a former college golfer at Missouri State, posted a 1-under par 70 and was the only player in the Open Division to break par during a very windy round one on Saturday.
Defending High Plains Amateur champion Grant Vollertsen and 2010 Kansas Amateur champion Charlie Stevens are lurking two shots back after finishing with 1-over par 72's for the round.
In the Masters Division, KGA veterans Zac Burton of Manhattan, Shawn Audrain of Garden City and Kansas City's Russell Holzbaur share the lead after finishing with 1-under par 70's. The Senior Division leader following round one is Wichita's Tracy Chamberlin.
Chamberlin, a past champion in several KGA events, also finished the day at 1-under par 70 and holds a three shot lead in the Senior Division over Nashville's John Bailey.
