Three tied atop Metro Senior Amateur
ST. LOUIS, MO (Aug. 19, 2013) — Two former Senior Amateur champions and reigning Senior Player of the Year are tied atop the 21st Senior Championship leader board after Round 1 at Sunset Country Club. Scott Edwards (2009, 2011), Jim Dunn (2005) and Jeff Johnson are had Even par rounds of 72 Monday to complete Round 1. Edwards is looking for his 3rd Senior title, he would join Don Dupske as the only one with 3 or more. Dunn, who recently qualified for the USGA Senior Amateur won his title in 2005. Dunn carded 6 birdies on the day, but 4 bogeys and a double bogey rounded out his Even par round. Johnson has probably been the top Senior in the area over the last 2 years, even though this Senior Amateur title has eluded him. He currently leads in the Player of the Year points list.
Defending champion Andy Frost is just two shots back after opening with a 74 today. He is one back of David Speicher who carded a 1-over 73 to start the championship. Three shots back of the leaders are a pair of Persimmon Woods members, Joe Timpone and Dirk Teagarden. The final grouping of Edwards, Dunn and Johnson will go at 12:20pm.
