Two champions were crowned in Texas this past weekend. Luke Neeley rolled to the Texas North Amateur title while Tony Soerries took the South championship.

Neeley entered the final round of the North Amateur held at Walnut Creek Country Club's Pecan Course with a five-shot lead and never looked back.

Neeley, a member at the host club, went 4- under in final-round action and won by 10 shots.

In the South, Soerries won in wire-to-wire fashion at Kingwood's Deerwood Club. Soerries battled wet weather and the field, winning with a final-round 77.

TIM HOGARTH WINS LA CITY MATCH PLAY

Tim Hogarth is the champion of the 2013 Los Angeles City Championship.

Hogarth, a long time fixture in SCGA and USGA events (winner of the 1996 U.S. Public Links and finalist at 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur), defeated Clayton Yamaguchi, 5-and-4, in Sunday's final match held at Rancho Park.

Hogarth defeated Michael Brockington in Saturday's quarterfinals to advance. Brockington had held the bracket's No. 2 seed before falling.

En route to the final match, Hogarth also won matches over Dylan Neal and Neil Hand.

CHARLOTTE CITY: OWEIDA TOPS JASPERS FOR TITLE

Phillip OWeida shot 68-68-72 to win the 2013 Charlotte City Amateur Championship.

Oweida, who led after Round 1, won in a playoff over Joe Jaspers, who shot 65 on Saturday to get into contention. Jaspers (71-65-72) finished alone in second place.

David Sargent shot three straight 70s to place third alongside William Rainey (73-68-69).

SIMMERMAN ROLLS AT SAN ANTONIO MATCH PLAY

No. 11 seed Danny Simmerman went the distance, winning the 2013 Greater San Antonio Match Play Championship at Fair Oaks Ranch.

Simmerman defeated No. 16 Ian Evans by an impressive marging, taking the championship match 7-and-6.

Top-seeded Chris Contreras was upset in Round 2, falling to No. 33 Ryan Luna.

No. 2 seed Bobby Baugh went the distance, winning the Senior Division.

ILLINOIS AMATEUR INVITATIONAL: SLUTZKY HOLDS ON

Chadd Slutzky fired rounds of 64-67--131 to win by two shots at the Illinois Amateur Invitational held at Schaumberg Golf Club.

Slutzky raced out to an early advantage, shooting 64 on Saturday. He took a two-shot lead over Stephen Kois into Sunday's final round. Kois shot 72 to finish tied for fourth but Kyle Nathan and Daniel Stringfellow both carded 65s to make things interesting as play concluded.

In the end, though, no one was able to catch Slutzky.

RED HOT EVAN RUSSELL WINS VERMONT AMATEUR

Evan Russell continued his winning ways with a four-stroke victory at the 2013 Vermont Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Barre.

Russell, winner of the New England Amateur title earlier this summer, shot rounds of 69-68-71- 71- -279 and won by four shots over Bryan Smith.

Smith (75-65-72-71--283) was the only other player in red figures.
