Kansas Sr. Amateur: Groom takes lead
PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. (Aug. 12, 2013) -- After a three hour weather delay, round one of the 33rd Kansas Senior Amateuri got underway at Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club and several players took advantage of the soft conditions and scored well.

Leading the pack is Raytown's Steve Groom who opened with a 5-under par 66 to take a three shot leading heading into the final round. Three players trail Groom by three shots and will look to close the gap in round two.

Those players include Dave Harris and past Senior Amateur champions Steve Newman and Bryan Norton. Five players opened with 1-under par 70's in round.

They are Tracy Chamberlin, Mark Elliott, Scott Richey, Jim Seward and Bob Boring. In the Net Division, Independence's Bob Hunter leads after a round one score of 7-under par 64 net. Topeka's Jim Sanders trails by two in the Net Division.

ABOUT THE Kansas Senior Amateur

Must be an member of the Kansas Golf Association. 36 holes of individual stroke play with two divisions: Championship (any age 50+) and Super Senior (60+). Players that wish to compete for the overall championship must enter the Championship Division. Gross and net champions to be determined in each division.
