NC Match Play: 9-under puts Dixon on top
RALEIGH, NC (July 31, 2013) -- First round stroke play qualifying results from the 4th North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 (6304 yards, par 35-36—71, 70.8/133).

Red numbers dotted the scoreboard after round one was completed. 53 players posted a sub-par opening round at Carolina Country Club.

20-year-old Roy Dixon III of Salisbury carded a nine-under par 62 to take the lead by two strokes following the first round.

Play was suspended for 40 minutes from 3:50pm to 4:30pm due to a thunderstorm that rolled through west Raleigh.

After 36 holes the field will be cut to the low 31 players plus the defending champion for match play that begins Friday morning. Defending champion, Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, will be the number one seed.

ABOUT THE North Carolina Amateur Match Play

Open to any male amateur golfer 13 and older. Must be a resident of North Carolina and a member of a CGA club with an index no greater than 9.9. Sectional qualifying is required for those who do not meet the exemption criteria. Format consists of 36 holes of stroke play qualifying followed by a cut to the low 32 players for match play.
