Match play begins at Texas Women's Amateur
The Woodlands, TX (July 30, 2013) —The first round of State Amateur Match Play began today at The Woodlands Country Club. What began as a cool morning turned into a sweltering afternoon very quickly. Qualifying medalist Maggie Neece (Colleyville) defeated Rose Henderson to advance to the Round of 16. She will face the 2010 WTGA Four-Ball Champion Taylor Slagle of Southlake. Former State Amateur Champion Mina Hardin also won her match today to advance to the Round of 16. The course remains in excellent shape with greens continuing to be very firm and fast. Many players have reported their golf balls have been bouncing over the greens. The Round of 16 will play their matches starting at 8:00 tomorrow morning with Flights 1-4 immediately following.

ABOUT THE Women's Texas Amateur

This Championship determines the best female amateur player in the state of Texas and provides an avenue for players to earn points for the USGA State Team Championship.

Qualifications: Resident of Texas or Texarkana for the last 6 months prior to the tournament. Individual or Club member of the WTGA. Must have a current USGA Handicap Index.

Format: One day Stroke Play qualifier for Match Play tournament. 32 contestants in the Championship Flight, 16 contestants in all other flights.

Field Size: Low 96 Handicap Index entries.
