Trailing by two shots entering Saturday’s final round, the team of Futch/Roscoe finished with a seven-under par 137 aggregate to claim the title. Shreveport residents Eddie Lyons and Jim Lipe shot a final round 69, but were unable to convert a birdie opportunity on the first extra hole when Lyons’ birdie try went 10-feet past the cup. From there, Roscoe was able to coax in a 20-footer to secure the first LGA title for both he and his partner.

Finishing in a tie for third at 6-under par 138 were the teams of Mike Partin (Haughton)/Hal Wright (Shreveport), Bill Kallam (Lafayette)/Ben Thibeaux (Lafayette), and John Davis (Lafayette)/Jim Fatheree (Lafayette). Partin and Wright posted the low round of the day with a five-under par 67 which vaulted them into a top-5 finish .

Just a few weeks removed from a runner-up finish in the LGA Club Team Championship while representing Pine Hills Country Club (where Roscoe recorded a hole-in-one), the team of Roscoe/Futch continued played a steady round of golf today as they shot three-under par on the ouward nine with birdies at Holes # 4, 7, and 8. After a birdie at #13, which took them to 8-under par for the tournament, they made their first bogey of the weekend at the difficult par-4 16th. Pars on the closing holes ensured them of a tie after regulation. Lyons/Lipe got off to a tough start with a one-over 37 on the front nine, but came back with birdies on four of the first five holes on the back nine (#10, 11, 12, and 14).

Randy McGee and Todd Lusk of Baton Rouge finished at 5-under par (139) for the tournament which put them in sixth place. Finishing in a tie for seventh were first round leaders and defending champions, Robert Shelton and Jimmy Thomas of Lafayette, and the runners-up from the 2005 Championship, Brad Mosing and Dennis Smith (4-under, 140).

In addition to competing for the Overall Championship, players that fall into the 60-64 and 65-69 Age Groups competed concurrently in Age Group Championships. In the 60-64 Age Group, Todd Lusk and Randy McGee took home the title, while Curt McClure and Corky Yates, the 2004 Overall Champions, captured their second straight 65-69 Age Group Championship with a two day total of 146.

This year’s Championship was held at Carter Plantation, which is the home to PGA Champion and Louisiana native David Toms’ first signature design. The course, which opened in 2003, has been featured as part of Golf Magazine’s “Top Ten Courses You Can Play.” The course was played at 6,770 yards for the Championship.
