Sacramento Stroke Play: Sandoval wins by 1
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 21, 2013) -- Austen Sandoval, Sacramento, scorched the field with a come-from-behind performance on the final day with a 67 to make up 5 shots on the first day leader and win by 1 over Michael Grentz to capture the 49th Annual Sacramento County Men's Championship at Ancil Hoffman.

Austen said that he made birdy on four of the final five holes. - sounds like Mickelson at the Open.

Austen attends high school in Sacramento. Since he is just sixteen, he also competed in the County Junior at Cherry Island this same week, finishing second to the Boys Champion David Laskin.

ABOUT THE Sacramento County Championship

The Sacramento Golf Council presents the Sacramento County Men's & Women's Amateur Championship at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15, 2018.

The entry deadline is July 4, 2018 and there will be no refunds after this date. Cancellations and requests for refunds prior to the closing date should call Marc Arcuri, Director at (916) 771-3939. Do not call the golf course. There will be a $25.00 service charge on all returned checks or a $20.00 administrative charge for any withdrawal for on-line registration.

Men's Championship

The tournament is open to all male amatuer golfers with a current USGA handicap index of 3.0 or less as of July 1, 2018. The field is limited to paid entries from the first 80 players. All others will be placed on a waiting list.

The format is stroke play over 36 holes - 18 holes each day. In the event of a tie for the championship, a sudden-death playoff at completion of play on Sunday, July 15 will determine the champion. Prizes for other ties are awarded by combining tied places and distributing accordingly.

The entry fee is $190 and includes all green fees, range balls and awards - power cart not included.

Women's Championship

This is a scratch only tournament open to all female amateur golfers with a current USGA handicap index of 7.0 or less as of July 1, 2018. The field is limited to the first 40 paid entries. All others will be placed on a waiting list.

The entry fee is $160 per player and includes green fees, range balls and all awards (cart fees are not included). The tournament format will be stroke play over 36 holes - 18 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. In the event of a tie, a sudden-death playoff will be conducted after completion of play on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
