UEBLO DE COCHITI, N.M. (July 21, 2013) -- After an opening round 65 in the first round of the New Mexico - West Texas Women's Amateur, Dominique Galloway stepped on the tee on Sunday with a seven-stroke lead. Any good caddie would of advised caution and cruise control to the 15-year old who's recently stepped to the forefront of the New Mexico women's golf scene. That advice was apparently heeded, as the Rio Rancho, N.M. resident strolled around Cochiti Golf Club in a tempered fashion posting 76 for a two-day total of 141. The three-under par total was good enough for a five-shot victory over her closest competitor and a field of several younger golfers who have brought some new blood to Sun Country women's golf. The low round of the final day belonged to runner-up and defending champion, Kristen Cline of Socorro, N.M. The future New Mexico State Aggie womens golfer posted an impressive three-under par, 69, but it was all too little too late as Galloway had propelled herself from striking distance so early in the event.
