Louisiana Four-Ball: Abney, Caldwell take it
Abita Springs, LA (July 21, 2013) -- Sunday’s final round at the 2013 LGA Four-Ball Championship at Money Hill Golf & Country Club in Abita Springs began with the team of Jack Abney of Slidell and Bill Caldwell III of Baton Rouge at the top of the leaderboard after they shot an amazing eleven-under par 61 on Saturday. Chirs Perez of Baton Rouge/Felipe Del Solar of St. Francisville and Chris Donaldson of Metairie/Jeff Lorio of New Orleans were just one stroke off the lead at ten-under par 62. Lorio and Donaldson were in the final pairing with Abney and Caldwell at 9:10 AM. Shortly after they teed off, there was a four hour weather delay, and when play resumed at 1:30 PM, conditions were soft and scoring was more difficult than it was on Saturday. Abney and Caldwell won the LGA Four-Ball Championship in exciting fashion, and they separated themselves from rest of the field with their clutch putting and excellent ball striking.

Abney kick started the leaders’ round with a birdie at the par 5 1st. He followed that with a par at the par 4 2nd hole, and Caldwell made par on the next three holes. Caldwell birdied the par 4 6th hole, and the pair would each make to pars on the final four holes, making the turn at two-under par 34. Abney made par on the par 4 10th hole, and Caldwell birdie the par 5 11th. The duo would stumble on the next two holes, making back to back bogeys, their only bogeys of the Championship. However, Abney responded in a big way with four consecutive birdies. He hit his tee shot within four feet on the par 3 14th, and he made a ten foot birdie putt on the par 4 15th. He made a birdie putt from off the green at the par 3 16th, and he capped that incredible stretch with a birdie at the par 5 17th. Just ahead of Abney and Caldwell, Del Solar and Perez carded a 67, so they knew they needed to make par on the finishing hole, the par 4 18th. Abney reached the green in regulation and two putted for the victory, bringing their final round to five-under par 67, and their final score for the Championship to sixteen-under par 128.

Del Solar and Perez finished in 2nd place (67/129). Rounding out the top five were: T3. Tim Dahlberg of Mandeville and Reid Uzee of New Orleans (64/130), T3. Donaldson and Lorio (68/130), and 5. Blaine Patin of Greenwell Springs and Darrell Lakvold of Baton Rouge (67/133).

The 64 shot by Uzee and Dahlberg was the low round of the day. Other scores under par on Sunday: D.J. Schexnider, Jr. of Sulphur/Jon Doyle of DeRidder (67/135), Bob Neal/Mike Havert (67/136), Brandon Aydlett of Metairie/Justin Sevier of Shreveport (70/137), Kenley Jones of Avery Island/Scott Shea of Youngsville (71/139),

The Ron Garl designed Money Hill Golf & Country Club track has drawn high accolades from this field of the top players in the state. The course was in excellent condition, it drained well after the heavy rains Sunday morning, and the greens are some of the best in the state right now. The Money Hill course played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,834 yards.
