Cardinal Am: Coalson goes wire-to-wire
GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 21, 2013) -- UNC Greensboro's Taylor Coalson fired a final-round 70 to complete a wire-to-wire victory at the 2013 Cardinal Amateur.
Coalson's first-round 65 paved the way for his 71-70 weekend and a five-shot win over Eric Brady, who stormed into second place with a final-round 67.
Miller Capps and Ryan Ebner finished tied for fourth place, six shots behind Coalson.
The inaugural Cardinal Amateur, played in 1978, was designed to offer the world's finest amateur golfers the opportunity to face the challenge of a superb golf course in an atmosphere reflecting the highest ideal of amateur athletics, with fierce competition and sportsmanlike camaraderie.
Many former competitors are now on the PGA, Senior PGA and Nationwide tours.
Jay Sigel, a winner on the senior tour, has been quoted as saying that the Cardinal Am is one of the finest amateur tournaments in the country and one which he wishes he had won during his amateur career.
