Minnesota Am: Jacobson, Welle share lead
MEDINA, Minn. (July 15, 2013) -- Andy Jacobson and Ben Welle both shot 3-under 69s and share the first-round lead at the 110th Minnesota Amateur Championship at Medina Golf & Country Club.

The duo is tied just one shot ahead of Jesse Polk and Sam Matthew. Polk and Matthew hot 2-under 70.

Johnny Larson, Dominic Kieffer and Brent Jacobson are all two shots back.

All told, 11 players are within three shots of the lead entering the second-round.

In 1901, the first Amateur Championship concluded the MGA's inaugural meeting at the Meadow Brook Club in Winona. Thus, the MGA began a tradition that has carried into the present day. The MGA Amateur is now one of the largest golfing events in the state. Nearly 900 people enter the championship every year. It takes more than a dozen qualifying sites around the state to accommodate the competitors. 54 hole stroke play championship.
