Colorado Match Play: Quarterfinals set
DENVER, Colo. (July 10, 2013) -- In a tournament in which none of the top 10 seeds made the quarterfinals, 2012 CGA Player of the Year Steven Kupcho of CommonGround Golf Course won twice Wednesday in the 113th CGA Match Play Championship at Bear Creek Golf Club in west Denver.

Kupcho, the University of Northern Colorado golfer who won the 2012 CGA Stroke Play, defeated qualifying co-medalist Brandon Bingaman of Black Canyon Golf Club 4 and 3 in Wednesday's round of 16. Earlier in the day, Bingaman ousted former champion Steve Irwin of Lakewood Country Club 2 and 1.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals was 2013 CGA Public Links champion Derek Fribbs of Colorado National Golf Club. The former University of Colorado golfer beat sixth-seeded Braden Baer of the Ranch Country Club in 19 holes in the round of 16. Fribbs won the last two holes of the match with birdies to rally after being 1 down going into 18.

Ethan Freeman of Glenmoor Country Club, the other qualifying co-medalist, was ousted in the round of 32 on Wednesday, falling in 20 holes to Jack Adolfson of the Fox Hill Club, who subsequently lost 4 and 3 to CU golfer David Oraee of Highland Hills Golf Course.

Meanwhile, 2012 Match Play runner-up Parker Edens of Greeley Country Club continued to roll through the bracket en route to the quarterfinals. The Colorado State University golfer has won his three matches 5 and 3, 7 and 5, and 2 and 1.

Thursday will mark the second straight day that the CGA Match Play will feature two rounds. The two players who win twice will meet in Friday's 36-hole final.

ABOUT THE Colorado Match Play

18 holes of stroke play qualifying; the top 64 players will be seeded according to the stroke play results. Non-exempt players must pre-qualify. Must be an active member of the Colorado Golf Association.
