Colo. Match Play: Freeman, Bingaman set standard
DENVER, Colo. (July 8, 2013) -- Two-time 3A state high school champion Ethan Freeman of Glenmoor Country Club and Brandon Bingaman of Black Canyon Golf Club shot 3-under-par 69s at Bear Creek Golf Club in Denver to lead the way in Monday's stroke-play portion of the 113th CGA Match Play Championship.

Freeman, who will begin his University of Colorado golf career in the fall, carded three birdies in a bogey-free round. Bingaman, a former Colorado Mesa University golfer, made five birdies on Monday.

John Ahern, playing at his home course, was among four players who posted 72s. Joining him at that figure were defending champion Brian Dorfman of Cherry Creek Country Club, Dylan Mitchell of Lakewood Country Club and Braden Baer of the Ranch Country Club.

Dorfman, a former Georgetown University golfer, will be the No. 1 seed as the defending champion in the CGA's oldest championship.

A total of 64 players advance to match play, which begins Tuesday and continues through Friday, when the 36-hole final will be played.

Bear Creek is hosting the CGA Match Play for the 14th time since 1986.

ABOUT THE Colorado Match Play

Must be an active member of the Colorado Golf Association. The first round is an 18-hole stroke play qualifier. The low 63 qualifiers advance to match play. If entered, the defending champion will be the number one seed, and does not need to qualify. 32 players will not advance. No refund for non-qualifiers. All play is at scratch.
