RICHMOND, Ky. (July 2, 2013) - Taylor Riggs and Garrett Hinton, a duo of Eastern Kentucky University players, held on to the win the 2013 Kentucky State Four-Ball Championship on July 2 at Gibson Bay Golf Club. Riggs, of LaGrange and Hinton, of Elizabethtown fired a final round 64 for a two-round total of 126. They held off a hard charging Cale Barr, of Union and Ben Langley, of Lexington who followed an opening round 66 with an impressive 61, on day where wet conditions made for a lengthy golf course. Riggs was the star of the show with seven birdies on his own ball, including three in succession to open his round. When asked about his round, he smiled and said ”the holes looked like garbage cans today.” The two did not record a bogey on their scorecards for the 36-hole event. The team not only got a nice amount of golf shop credit for their victory, but their names will also be engraved on the Fred Allen Cup, presented to them after their round.
In the Mid-Senior Division, James Simpson and Vincent Vaughn, both of New Castle, took top honors with a two-day total of 139. Happy Rakestraw, of Somerset and Steve Rogers, of Bowling Green finished with a very solid two-day total of 126 to champion the Senior Division. The Senior Net Championship belonged to Wes Bottom and Greg Grider, both of Russell Springs with a two-round total of 117.
