DADE CITY, FLORIDA (April 30, 2006) -– Isleworth Country Club edged out the home team by one stroke to win the 63rd Club Team Championship at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City on April 29-30.
Isleworth Country Club, represented by George Roat, Douglas Dvorak, Mark Weston and Peter Williams, posted a tournament total of 452 to win by one shot over Lake Jovita. Isleworth had a commanding ten stroke lead going into the final round of play after a team total of 220 on the North course. Team members Douglas Dvorak and Peter Williams fired two of the three even par rounds of the first day. In the final round, Isleworth recorded a 232 on the South course with Dvorak’s 73, Roat contributed a 77 and Williams recorded an 82 for Isleworth’s first Club Team Championship. “Today, we were all off to a slow start,” said Mark Weston, “but we fought back and did the best we possibly could.” “The difficulty of Isleworth’s course forces you to not give up,” added Dvorak. “The greens were just as hard and fast here as at Isleworth.” Dvorak also earned low individual honors with rounds of 72-73—145.
Lake Jovita fought hard from ten strokes back to close the gap to only one shot. Bill Emo, Gary Pettit, David Eddy and Steve Collier, playing their home course, recorded a 230 on the South course in the first round and a 223 on the North course in the final round for second place. Pettit fired one of the two under par rounds of the tournament shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round. Avila Golf and Country Club in Tampa placed third with a 456 tournament total.
A tradition since 1941, the Club Team is open to traditional golf clubs that own their own course and are members of the FSGA. The four team members must each be members of the club and each individual must also be a member of the FSGA. The Championship features 36 holes of stroke play with the total of the low 3 of the 4 gross scores counting in each round.
