Wickenden opens Tenn. Match Play with 66
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (June 27, 2013) — First-round play at the Tennessee Match Play Championship was completed on Thursday with former Belmont University golfer Elliott Wickenden firing a 66 to take an early three-shot lead.

Eighteen more holes will be played on Friday to crown a medalist and set the match play field.

Brandon Rodgers and Scott Stevens each shot 69's to sit three strokes behind Wickenden in a tie for second place.

ABOUT THE Tennessee Match Play

The first TGA State Amateur Championship was played in 1914. Originally it was conducted as match play, but since 1969 stroke play has decided the Tennessee Amateur Championship. After four years of competition in the mid-80s the Match Play Championship was revived in 2004 with 36-hole stroke play qualifying at the tournament site to set the field of 16 players in the match play bracket.
