CLEMMONS, NC (April 28, 2006) -- Ron Carpenter, 56 of Durham, NC and Ernie Newton, 58 of High Point, NC claimed victory in the rain-shortened Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship at Tanglewood Park’s Championship course, with a 36-hole total of 11-under par 129.
Thursday’s final round was plagued with showers and rain reducing the event to a 36-hole championship.
Two teams claimed second place. Lea Couch of Bahama, NC and Dink Andrews of Durham, NC along with Roger Taylor of Conover, NC and John Green of Ocean Isle Beach, NC were five shots back.
Newton, a retired schoolteacher and Carpenter, a land surveyor both claimed their first CGA title.
“We ham and egged it well in the first round and kept it going from there,” said Carpenter. “We teamed well together and I hope Ernie and I can play together for many years to come.”
