Oregon Amateur: Chianello, Lim meet in final
EUGENE, Ore. (June 21, 2013) -- The 104th Oregon Amateur Championship Men’s Final Match will be a Civil War of Golf of sorts, as Defending Champion, 2013 OSU Beaver Senior golfer Nick Chianello of Gresham, Ore., will face off with Incoming Duck Freshman Thomas Lim of Moorpark, Calif.
Lim dominated his semifinal match with Justin Kadin of Corvalis, Ore., winning 6 and 5. Lim birdied his first four holes on route to advancing, finishing six-under par through 13 holes.
Chianello was 2 up after five holes, but Rak Cho of Eugene, Ore., went birdie, birdie, eagle on holes 6-8 to get to 1 up and held onto that position through the 13th hole. Chianello birdied the 14th and 16th hole to get back to 1up, but a bogey on the short par-four 16th hole left the players all square on the 18th tee box.
Chianello’s approach to the 18th green hit the flagstick and ended up six inches from the cup, the putt was conceded by Cho. Cho’s 25-foot straight uphill putt for birdie to extend the match just barely missed and Chianello advanced to defend his title.
