Brame takes lead at NC Amateur
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 15, 2013 — Third round results of the 53rd North Carolina Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday, June 15, 2013 (6731 yards, par 36-35—71, 72.8/136).

30-year-old Steven Brame of Henderson, NC carded a five-under 66 to take a one stroke lead at 204 heading into the final round. Brame, a Xerox copier distributor, made six birdies versus one bogey in his round. During Thursday’s severe thunderstorm that roared through the Winston-Salem area, Brame’s truck was crushed when a tree was blown over in the Forsyth Country Club parking lot.

Lurking only one shot behind is defending champion Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, NC and Victor Wiggins of Gastonia, NC. Wiggins, who will attend AuburnUniversity this fall, fired a tournament low round of eight under 63 to vault back into contention.

36-hole leader Michael McGowan of Southern Pines, NC posted a one-over 72 to fall back into fifth place at 208.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which in its 104th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.

ABOUT THE North Carolina Amateur

Open in all amateur male golfers age 13 or older. Must be a resident of North Carolina and a member of a CGA member club with an index 7.4 and below. An 18-hole sectional qualifier is required for those that do not meet the exemption criteria. Format consists of 72 holes of stroke play with a cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.
