NC Amateur: McGowan holds lead after Day 1
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 14, 2013) -- Partial first round results of the 53rd North Carolina Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, NC.
Thursday play was suspended at 3:40 p.m. due to the line of severe thunderstorms that roared through North Carolina on Thursday afternoon with 50+ MPH winds, heavy rain and severe lightning. Due to the great work of the Forsyth CC maintenance staff, the golf course was ready for play at 7:10pm when play was resumed.
Current clubhouse leader is Michael McGowan of Southern Pines, NC. He carded a five-under 66 and holds a one stroke lead.
After 36 holes the field of 143 players will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final two rounds.

ABOUT THE North Carolina Amateur
Open in all amateur male golfers age 13 or older.
Must
be a resident of North Carolina and a
member of a CGA member club with an index 9.9
and
below. An 18-hole sectional qualifier is required for
those that do not meet the exemption criteria.
Format
consists of 72 holes of stroke play with a cut to the
low
60 and ties after 36 holes.
